First introduced in 1962 as Gibson’s second square-shoulder acoustic model (the first was the Hummingbird™), the Gibson Dove™ is one of the most recognisable acoustic guitars ever made. It has been used by players such as Elvis, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Alex Lifeson, Frank Hannon, and many more. Now Epiphone, in partnership with Gibson Custom, is proud to introduce the Epiphone 1963 Dove Reissue – a stunningly authentic recreation of the iconic early Dove models from 1963. This beautiful acoustic guitar has a thermally aged solid spruce top that is reinforced with traditional scalloped X-bracing made from quarter-sawn solid spruce. The back and sides of the 1963 Dove Reissue are made from solid, figured maple, delivering a bright, clear tone with a bit more bass than a Hummingbird and a very balanced tone overall. The one-piece, thermally aged, 25.5" scale mahogany neck has a Rounded profile and is capped with a bound rosewood fretboard featuring 20 standard frets and split parallelogram mother-of-pearl inlays. The body features multi-ply top and back binding, a dove-shaped rosewood bridge plate with two mother-of-pearl dove inlays, and a compensated bone saddle, nut, and bridge pins. The iconic Dove pickguard features a mother-of-pearl dove. The headstock includes Kluson® Waffleback tuners with metal Keystone buttons, a two-ply white and black truss rod cover engraved “DOVE,” and aged mother-of-pearl Epiphone and Gibson Crown inlays. It also features a Gibson-style “open book” profile with the Inspired by Gibson Custom double diamond logo etched on the rear. To meet today’s stage and studio needs, the 1963 Dove Reissue comes equipped with an L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze VTC preamp and under-saddle piezo pickup system.
