This expedition, led by Christiane Ziegler and her team, takes us into the depths of a necropolis over 4,000 years old, among burial shafts, intact sarcophagi, mummies, viscera boxes, funerary statuettes, and exceptional discoveries. As the days go by, the archaeologists excavate tombs from different periods, meticulously document each object, and face challenging excavation conditions: heat, sand, fragile materials, and the risk of collapse. Highlights included the opening of still-sealed sarcophagi, the discovery of an undisturbed tomb, the examination of a funerary casket containing vases and packages of viscera, and the uncovering of numerous fragments of superbly decorated sarcophagi.
