J’ai lu… « Israël, une course vers l’abîme » d'Omer Bartov

Pascal Boniface analyzes the book "Israel, a Race Towards the Abyss," which explores the links between the memory of the Holocaust, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and international law, written by Omer Bartov, an Israeli-American historian specializing in the Holocaust. Born in Israel and deeply attached to his country, Omer Bartov offers a critical reflection on the evolution of Israeli society and the war waged in Gaza since October 7, 2023. He questions what he considers a historical paradox: how can a state founded in the wake of the Holocaust now be the subject of accusations of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide? He revisits the central place of the Holocaust in contemporary Israeli identity, but also the difficulty of simultaneously considering the memory of the Holocaust and that of the Palestinian Nakba. In this book, he analyzes the statements made by Israeli leaders after October 7, the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza, the role of the United States in perpetuating the conflict, and the debates surrounding the genocide charges brought before international courts. He also criticizes the systematic conflation of certain criticisms of Israeli policy with antisemitism, arguing that this confusion undermines both the fight against antisemitism and democratic debate. Finally, Omer Bartov examines the future of Israel, the international consequences of the current war, and the prospects for future coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians. ➡️ FIND PASCAL BONIFACE ON: Facebook: https://cutt.ly/9W4KpNB Twitter:   / pascalboniface   Instagram: https://cutt.ly/8W4J9Iw LinkedIn: https://cutt.ly/XW4Ku4W
