ADHD u dorosłych. "Nie potrafią dłużej skupić się na jakiejś czynności" #psyche #podcast

ADHD is primarily associated with children, but these children eventually grow up and enter into relationships, including intimate ones. It turns out that creating, or rather maintaining, a relationship for a neurodivergent person is very difficult. Unless they meet someone who understands that the brain of an adult with ADHD works unconventionally. What is ADHD? How does the brain of someone with ADHD function? Why is it sometimes so difficult for adults with ADHD to find their way in a relationship? Karolina Grzywacz, a psychologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of adults with ADHD, answers these questions. Some adults with ADHD are often distracted, forgetting what they were supposed to do. They can't focus on various activities. Some hide their ADHD, overcompensating for certain symptoms. Their unconventional thinking and actions can contribute to conflicts in relationships and other relationships. Why can't people with ADHD adapt to the rules of coexistence in a relationship? – It's not that they can't adapt. They desperately want to adapt, but their nervous system won't allow them to," psychologist Karolina Grzywacz said in the Psyche podcast, adding: "When entering into a relationship with someone, it's worth learning how to help a person with ADHD navigate different situations. And here, understanding what ADHD is and what neurodiversity itself is all about is fundamental." ADHD, as the expert emphasizes, is a set of symptoms that tends to be combined with other symptom sets, such as autism. Sometimes patients have some features of this syndrome and some features of another, so we need a completely different way of thinking about these symptoms and the relationship. What's extremely difficult to do is to put aside such traditional methods of operating in a relationship and to think about it in general. Expecting an immediate reaction or action from a person with ADHD is doomed to failure. And this doesn't mean that the person with ADHD is malicious and doing it on purpose, or that they're mean because you don't want to. "In the case of people with ADHD symptoms, this is absolutely not the case." It could be that they heard what someone said but were doing something else at the time. And simply, colloquially speaking, it didn't stick. It went in one ear and out the other," explains Karolina Grzywacz, a guest on the Psyche psychology podcast.
