Vintage Housewares: The Thermos Collection
There is something about vintage thermoses that brings back memories of school lunches, family picnics, early morning road trips and dads going off to work. Before there were drive-through coffee shops every 500 feet and at a time when many of us couldn't afford to buy lunch every day, the trusty thermos was at the ready to keep hot things hot and cold things cold. The thermos collection at Cavalcade largely features thermoses from the two leading manufacturers in the US during the middle part of the twentieth century: Aladdin Industries and the Thermos company. These two companies dominated the thermos market but both utilized glass-lined, vacuum-style insulation in their products. The official color of thermoses seem to be plaid! Although there are a few other designs featured in the collection, as well as private label thermoses manufactured for Ace Hardware, Woolworth and Sears.
