Pinnacles Desert to HMAS Sydney Memorial — WA Free Camping

We went from ancient limestone pinnacles to cave rock art to a moving war memorial — and Kai played cricket for the first time in almost a year. This week our family of six continues the WA leg of our lap around Australia. We start with some rare downtime at Ledge Point — where Kai finally joins the kids for backyard cricket after ACL surgery kept him sidelined for nearly 12 months. From there we head to the Pinnacles Desert in Nambung National Park, walking and driving through limestone formations that may be over 100,000 years old. The kids turn the walk into a treasure hunt for trail markers, and we debate the two theories behind how the Pinnacles formed. Then it's onto Cliff Head North — a quiet beachfront free camp with caves hiding mysterious red ochre rock art. Ruth nails the beach drive, we catch a stunning sunset, and Claire becomes the firewood collector-in-chief.
