Then you absolutely need to watch this video!!! In this video, I'll show you where to insert the locking pins, how to properly align the camshafts, and how to check the timing marks without disassembling the engine. Hello everyone!! My name is ARTIK. And today I want to show you where the timing marks are on the 3.0D TDI Audi engine. Basically, the four-liter engine has the same alignment marks. This is the rear of the engine, where the cover is installed, then the drive plate and gearbox. I'll show you how and where the locking pins are installed. So, let's start with the crankshaft. The crankshaft is locked via the second oil pan; we've already screwed the locking pin in here. There's a plug here that needs to be unscrewed, twisted, and then find the groove in the bracket and screwed in the locking pin. The first cylinder is counted here - this will be cylinder 1. If you're driving in the direction of travel, it's the right head, the one closest to the windshield. The intermediate shaft is the balance shaft - here it is. The pin is also installed; there are holes here that should align. We insert the pin, 5 mm in diameter. This is the oil pump - it doesn't matter what position it's in. And the drives to the heads. When disassembling and replacing the chain, we install the pins from the end; there is also a hole on this side and on this one. If we just need to check the timing marks on the engine, we don't need to mess around with it. We just install the pin on the crankshaft and unscrew these plugs, these Allen keys on this side and this side. We unscrew them from the end too, if we remove this sprocket, there's a groove in the mounting surface that aligns with this hole. The timing marks can be checked without disassembling the engine and without having to touch the chain. That's all. Another nuance: if you remove the camshafts on these engines – the 3-liter/4-liter – then on the left head (in the direction of travel), they are aligned horizontally; there should be slots, and on the right head, one is vertical and the other, you can see it there, is horizontal. There are self-cocking gears on one of the camshafts; they don't need to be cocked; they are simply installed one to the other, just so they align horizontally here, relative to the cylinder head surface. And on this side, there's a vertical and horizontal alignment, also relative to the cylinder head surface. That's it, there are basically no more nuances. This is what the assembled engine looks like with the circuits closed. Now we've installed all the rear covers, put the vacuum pump back in place, and the drive board. That's it, now we'll mount the engine in the car and start it.
