Santtu-Matias Rouvali conducts Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture

In September 2024 the Philharmonia took part in Musical Masterpieces, a Sky Arts docuseries unpacking the music and the stories of perennial favourites of the classical repertoire. In our episode, presenters Myleene Klass and Errollyn Wallen CBE explored Felix Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture. Mendelssohn's music evokes the wind and waves of a memorable trip he took, aged just 20, to the Isle of Staffa, and the grandeur of Fingal's Cave. We're releasing this complete performance today to mark the anniversary of the premiere of the final version of the Overture. You can watch Musical Masterpieces, with insights into the music from our Principal Conductor Santtu, members of the orchestra, music journalists Tom Service and Jessica Duchen, and Scottish tenor Nicky Spence, on the Sky Arts channel on NOW TV. https://philharmonia.co.uk/whats-on/
