The Chiltern route passes over the West Coast Main Line and Watford DC line between tunnels at 02:38. Chiltern Railways services on this route usually operate every half hour for most of the day with most services having the same stopping pattern. During peak hours there are additional services, some of which do not stop at Harrow-on-the-Hill. Between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham London Underground services provide additional services which are local all stations services throughout the day and semi-fast services at peak times. Additional services between London and Aylesbury operate once an hour via High Wycombe however these services mainly serve local stations on this route as they generally take longer to Aylesbury and do not continue to Vale Parkway. The approach track to Marylebone are shared with all London Chiltern Main Line services towards Oxford, Banbury and Birmingham. The rolling stock on this route is class 165 Networker Turbo units on all services to Aylesbury with these units in 2 and 3 carriage sets but sometimes operate in multiple. Note that as the Amersham route to Aylesbury shares tracks with the London Underground class 165 are the only Chiltern units which are currently able to operate this way due to having the correct equipment fitter. Other Chiltern services out of Marylebone are formed of class 168 Clubman and 68+Mk3 loco hauled sets on Mainline Silver services. London Marylebone is the only London terminal station to be entirely unelectrified with all Chiltern services being diesel operated. between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham the line is 3/4 rail DC electrified but only London Underground services are electrically operated. Between Rickmansworth and Amersham all Metropolitan line services share the same tracks and platforms as Chiltern Railways and between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Rickmansworth only fast Metropolitan line services share tracks with Chiltern. between Finchley Road and Harrow-on-the-Hill Chiltern tracks run parallel to Metropolitan and Jubilee line services but have their own tracks with the jubilee line branching off after Wembley Park. The Chiltern tracks are double track throughout this route with the London Underground sections ranging from 2-8 tracks in total depending on the section of route.
