Longleaf Pines of Southeast Texas
In Jasper County, Texas we encounter one of the most diverse habitats in the South, consisting of a sandy forest of Longleaf Pine, Pinus patula adjacent to a soggy bottomland with 3 different kinds of carnivorous plants, including pitcher plants (#Sarracenia alata) on it and a #mycoheterotrophic plant (#Apteria aphylla) that's barely noticeable in the shadowy understory in which it grows. Later, we end up a few miles away on a dry, rocky sandstone glade to see a succulent member of the bitterroot family, #Montiaceae. Thanks to my friend Adam Black for assistance in production.
