Repairing a 90's MiniDisc Multitrack Recorder (Yamaha MD8)

In this video I thought I'd document a unboxing of a "sold untested" Yamaha MD8 Minidisc Multi tracker and boy was it emotional roller coaster. It's a solid bit of kit and with a special type of MD DATA disk can record 8 tracks with nearly immediate seeking, definitely a bit of a upgrade in terms of usability compared to the Fostex cassette multitracker, but in this case I bought it mainly for the mixing board capability. For the price point you cant really beat sweepable mids AND 2 aux sends! I knew that there might be something wrong because it was so cheap but I had actually bought it to do a video on cheaper alternatives to audio mixers as these often do come up a lot cheaper than the usual alternatives and have all the features of a modern mixer, along with some nice sounding pre amps too. The only problem being that the actual mixing board part of the Multitracker was actually DEAD! Unbeknownst to me dogmeat was also chomping the kettle lead I needed. I'm sorry its not a proper teardown but if it ever gives up the ghost I'll take it apart to show you the bits then send the parts to someone who wants them! The audio is all over the place in this one, I think my trusty single sole surviving rode wireless go 2 is finally giving up the ghost and may have to finally waste all my money (overdue purchase) on the pros (they look good). Hoping to do some more videos on it soon but if you have any ideas please let us know! I have been beavering away (pixar hopper style) on a new EP that I hope to have out towards the tail end of next month - let us know if any of my tracks on here you want me to include in it! as always LOVE and hope your all doing okay :) Bandcamp - https://bostock.bandcamp.com/music 00:00 - Unboxing 01:52 - Dog Damage 02:05 - Copium 06:30 - The Repair 07:58 - Re-assembly 09:00 - IT WORKS 14:20 - Working Demo
