Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 - Preload Adjustment
This video is about my Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. In this video I am adjusting the preload on the rear suspension of the bike. The Interceptor 650 rear suspension has two single coil-over shocks. The shocks have an 88 mm travel and a six position adjustable preload. The preload should be set up for the load on the bike. This includes the rider and passenger, if you usually have one, and any cargo that you might ride around with. What we want out of the suspension is the best stability and traction that we can possibly get. Motorcycles are built with a suspension geometry that includes the height of the motorcycle and the angle of the front fork. In order to get the best performance out of the suspension on the Interceptor 650, the front fork and the rear shocks need to interact properly with each other. Adjusting the preload is actually really important because it changes the height of the bike and that's going to change the angle of the front fork. This is going to have an affect on the control and the balance of the motorcycle. Because anytime you change the height of the bike, up or down, you’re changing the center of gravity. If the preload isn't set correctly the front fork can either be too steep or too flat and that could result in over or under steering and it’s going to have a major effect on the overall handling of the Interceptor 650. The preload should be adjusted properly if you want to get the optimum performance out of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 suspension.
