UECO Beekeeping Project Overview (2026): Sponsor a Hive for Conservation. In 2025, Uganda Environmental Conservationists Organization (UECO) advanced its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable livelihoods through the establishment of a community-based beekeeping project under our “Conservation Beyond Parks” initiative. UECO established a demonstration farm as proposed in the 2024 Annual Report and developed a professional beekeeping proposal targeting 50 modern beehives valued at UGX 29,483,000(6,085.22 GBP, 8283.94 USD) (Proposal available upon request). Although full implementation was constrained by limited funding, the proposal provided a strong foundation for phased project rollout. With generous support from Mr. Simon Evans MBA, UECO successfully acquired the first five beehives, which were delivered on 16th July 2025. The first hive was installed on 27th July 2025 and was colonized by September 2025. The remaining four hives were installed on 14th September 2025, officially establishing UECO’s apiary. To support the apiary, UECO implemented complementary environmental activities, including planting lemon grass in April 2025 to improve bee forage, planting apple trees in June 2025, establishing 70 banana plants, Planting dragon fruits and planting 20 fruit trees around the farm. Despite these achievements, the project faced challenges, including limited acquisition of hives, lack of protective bee suits and tools, and constraints in expanding farmland due to funding limitations. Looking ahead, UECO is actively seeking additional sponsors to expand the apiary. A sponsor may support: One Kenya Top Bar (KTB) hive at UGX 130,000. (26.83 GBP, 36.52 USD) or Sponsor Bee keeping and honey extraction tools. Each sponsored hive will be labeled with the sponsor’s name, providing a visible and lasting contribution to environmental conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and community development. With increased support, the project will equip community members with practical beekeeping skills that enable them to earn sustainable incomes while protecting natural resources. Using the UECO apiary as a demonstration and learning center, participants will receive hands-on training in hive management, honey production, and conservation-friendly land use. Beyond livelihoods, the project will strengthen pollination services, enhance biodiversity, and support healthier ecosystems, contributing to improved food security and climate resilience.
