Installing & cutting a kitchen acrylic splashback from B&Q made by Splashwall
Installing an acrylic splashback Yet another deviation from my normal content, this time a splashback. This particular splashback was made by Splashwall (link below), not available direct but you can order samples from them FOC, these were ordered via B&Q. The samples did serve a purpose, I used them to test cut & drill to check results prior to doing the actual job, very useful I feel. I personally found a metal blade perfect for this application, I also noted that this acrylic was very smooth to cut, some I have come across in the past have almost been Perspex like and very brittle, so I was more than happy, doing this job. Measuring up for cuts, measure twice, if they don’t tally up do it a gain. At £185 a sheet, you do not want to mess it up. Now I will say here, tiling, might be cheaper. But it’s only going to be so if you are doing it yourself. Personally I prefer the look, the fact there are only joins in the corner & bottom and you cannot crack it. Installation is simple as it looked, I spaced it up off the work top just a mm or so, just so I could make sure the sealing bead would get right in & make as best seal as possible. Around the edge I uses clear silicon and the bottom edge to the work top I used grey. In the corners you need to allow for some expansion, this is the only negative I can say about this product, I wish they had a colour coded corner strip available. Any questions I will try and answer, I am no expert mind. https://www.splashwall.co.uk/acrylic-...
