It's rubbish, it's useless. And even worse, it won't help you. So, articulation is very important because even if you sing well, even if you have a beautiful voice, if people don't understand what you're saying, they lose part of the message. So what you need is to work on your articulation effectively. So why doesn't the clenched pencil exercise work? First, because clenching the pencil between your teeth will create tension in your jaw. So what's the exercise we're going to do? You need to understand that articulation happens in your lips and your tongue. Now, we need to know where it happens in the mouth. And we're going to do that together. We'll start with lip consonants. What are lip consonants? It's the p, for example. To make a p, it's a lip consonant. Now, I have other consonants where it's the tongue. So, we have consonants where the tongue is made behind the front teeth, at the front of the mouth. That's true for the t, for example. If you make a t, you feel the tip of your tongue touching the back of your teeth above it. Make small series of consonants like that. Now that I've explained to you where the tongue should touch, you'll become aware of it, and your brain will pick up on it, and you'll have good articulation. Now, I have consonants that will also require the tongue, but more towards the back. This will be the case for the q, the k. Here, I have my tongue. I feel that the back of my tongue is tapping against the roof of my mouth to make this k, this impact. What do I have left? I have the m left. The m is the lips. The n, what is it? A little question. It's the tongue that pinches too. But as you can see, there aren't actually 36 ways to articulate. It's just lip/tongue contact. That's the right way to articulate. If you make small series of consonants, as I just explained, you'll place your consonants in the right place, that is, you'll place your lips or tongue in the right place, and you'll articulate correctly. Thank you for watching this video. Don't hesitate to share it with your friends if they have articulation problems. And above all, until then, take good care of your voice.
