La storia geologica dell’Italia da 250 milioni di anni fa ad oggi
What was Italy like millions of years ago? The answer is surprising: the peninsula didn't exist, Sicily was close to Africa, and Sardinia was more closely linked to France. In this journey through time, we retrace 250 million years of geological evolution, from the breakup of Pangea to the birth of the Alps and the Apennines, up to the formation of the modern Mediterranean. We'll discover with Andrea Moccia why Italy was long submerged by an ancient ocean, how the collision of plates raised the mountains, why the Po Valley was a sea, and how volcanic activity has shaped the landscape to this day. To truly understand the land we live in, so rich in diverse landscapes, and why it remains one of the most geologically active areas in Europe.
