Hi guys, Today I wanted to show you how to take soft coral cuttings, specifically zoanthus or zoanthids for our marine aquarium. Of course, there are different methods for taking coral cuttings, whether soft coral, LPS, or SPS corals, but I've always been happy with this method, which I'll show you in the video. Cutting is the act of taking a fragment (cutting) of a coral to stimulate reproduction. Corals are creatures genetically programmed to recreate identical clones of themselves from virtually any fragment. What is coral cutting? Cutting itself, as mentioned, is the act of taking or cutting a fragment of coral. Corals have this reproductive power that allows them to replicate from simple fragments. All we have to do is simply cut and glue or lay down the new coral fragment to reproduce it. Reproduction by cuttings is a much faster method than the natural method because, through cuttings, the coral is stimulated to regenerate and create a colony to survive. Materials for cutting soft corals: Containers to hold corals and cuttings Powder-free gloves Protective glasses (especially with zoanthodon cuttings, palytoxin can splash out, so be careful) Scalpel Glue (methacrylate-based gel is excellent, or alternatively, coral glue) Tweezers Plugs or rocks to hold the cuttings A lot of patience When taking zoanthodon cuttings, I always recommend choosing the largest polyps; you'll have a 50% higher success rate with coral cuttings. I'm seriously considering using a cutting tray specifically for my corals. As always, I remind you that I'm not an expert; I'm simply sharing my experience.
