Santa Clara University celebrated its 2026 Graduate Commencement Ceremony for the School of Education and Counseling Psychology and the Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries on June 13, 2026, at Stevens Stadium. The ceremony honored graduates who earned advanced degrees in education, counseling psychology, pastoral ministries, and related fields dedicated to serving communities, advancing human flourishing, and creating positive change. The commencement featured keynote speaker Kris D. Gutiérrez, a distinguished professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and holder of the Carol Liu Chair in the School of Education. An internationally recognized scholar in the learning sciences, literacy, and educational policy, Gutiérrez explores how language, culture, and community shape learning, particularly for students from historically underserved communities. Throughout her career, Gutiérrez has received some of the field's highest honors, including the American Educational Research Association's Lifetime Achievement Award and the Distinguished Contributions to Research in Education Award. She also served on President Barack Obama's transition team and was appointed to the National Board of the Institute of Education Sciences.
