Protests erupted in late 2019, primarily driven by widespread corruption, lack of basic services, and high unemployment rates. These protests, fueled by public dissatisfaction with the government, have at times been met with violent crackdowns. Furthermore, the influence of foreign powers, especially Iran and the United States, continues to complicate Iraq's political landscape. The presence of foreign troops and the influence of militia groups have sparked debates about sovereignty and national identity. As Iraq moves forward, it grapples with the dual challenge of rebuilding and reconciling its communities while addressing the complex security and political issues that persist.
