Malacañan Palace June 16, 2026 "Your state visit marks a significant moment in the long-standing friendship between the Philippines and Germany, a partnership founded on mutual respect and shared values," said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his bilateral meeting with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the Federal Republic of Germany at the State Dining Room in Malacañan Palace on June 16, 2026. President Marcos Jr. expressed optimism about further strengthening ties between the two countries. "In our meeting today, we look forward to discussing with the German delegation a wide range of areas for cooperation between our two countries, both at the bilateral and multilateral levels," he said. The two leaders discussed areas of cooperation, including peace and development, defense, maritime cooperation, economic cooperation, climate change, renewable energy and labor. They also exchanged views on regional and international matters, including the Philippines' Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Chairship. For his part, President Steinmeier thanked the Filipino people for their warm welcome and hospitality. He noted that a German President's visit to the Philippines was long overdue, pointing out that the last such visit was 63 years ago.
