Block Paved Driveway PART 1 of 4 - GROUNDWORKS - Excavation Grab, RAMS, SUDS, Drainage & Soakaways

PART 1: Ground Work and Drainage This is an example of a block paved driveway being built. This first stage includes the dig out with a mini digger and breaker. Removal of waste by 8 wheel grab lorries, Mot Type one sub base grabbed in and then compaction with a Wacker plate. There's a mention of Risk Assessment and Method Statements - as being prepared is always the best practice for health and safety in any excavation. The main point is Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) and how it should be researched and included in every front garden. By running rain water straight onto roads you are directly contributing to URBAN CREEP a term used for the growth in paved surfaces leading to ground dehydration and excessive water going down main drains and sewers. This causes flooding in other areas and leads to water contamination in rivers and coast lines. There are multiple ways to be suds compliant that can be researched. Just by installing a basic soakaway or using a permeable block system or gravel, the impact on the environment can be completely resolved.
