In this chapter, we venture to a hidden gem on the Paraty coast: a freshwater waterfall that falls directly into a natural pool carved out of stone by nature itself, its edge blending with the turquoise and emerald-green sea. All of this is within the Cairuçu Biosphere Park and Reserve, a true paradise where the jungle meets the ocean. To reach this unique spot, we departed from Paraty on a local bus to Laranjeiras. From there, a van took us to the port, where we boarded a boat to Ponta Negra. In this small coastal town, a licensed guide was waiting for us—the only way to get there—who accompanied us on a three-hour trek through the Atlantic rainforest to reach this natural wonder, one of the few in the world with its characteristics. As a perfect ending, the people of Ponta Negra gave us a typical fish from the region, a carapau, and a friend from Ubatuba, whom we met at the lodge, offered to prepare it in the traditional style of his hometown.
