The book "Canine Neuroethology. Speeds, Intervals, and Stops: A Theory of Well-being and a Method for Education" is now available at www.tiendadelobos.com Follow me on Instagram www.instagram.com/alberto.delobos Canine Education and Rehabilitation Sessions www.delobos.es The book "Canine Neuroethology" by Alberto Delobos (2025) establishes a new discipline that unifies neurobiology and ethology specifically applied to dogs. Its main objective is to understand and improve the "Canine Welfare State." To this end, it proposes a theoretical framework based on Criticality Theory, arguing that the canine brain operates near a critical point to optimize information processing, energy efficiency, and adaptability. This book introduces the key concept of Neural Information Processing Rate Potential (NIRPP), postulating that there is a direct, bidirectional equivalence between this potential at the neuronal level (microscale) and the Physical Movement Rate (PMR) observable in dogs (macroscale). The book argues that chronic neurobiological overarousal is the underlying problem behind most current canine problem behaviors (aggression, reactivity, separation anxiety, etc.). Rather than focusing on modifying isolated behaviors, it proposes a practical method called the Base Method, which uses a "Rates, Intervals, Stops" (VIP) reading framework. This method consists of reading the dog's neurobiological state through its PMR and using the human handler's actions (stops, speed induction, state preservation) to regulate this PMR and, consequently, the dog's arousal state. The goal is to induce and maintain the "Calm State" (Σ=1), considered the optimal neurobiological state and the foundation of canine well-being. In essence, the book presents a unified theory and practical method that seek to revolutionize the understanding and management of canine behavior, focusing on the regulation of neurobiological states through the observation and modulation of physical movement, based on principles of neuroscience and the physics of complex systems.
