Moto Guzzi V85 TT E4 and E5 Models Airbox – Bad Design!

Moto Guzzi eliminated this design flaw with the E5+ model and changed the design of the airbox cover. The build quality of the BMC filter seems to be the best, but the dimensions of the K&N filter and its groove on the back solve the problem with the seal! Applying air filter sealing grease to all sealing surfaces also helps. Re-Upload 2025. Why? The use of silicone grease in the intake tract to seal the airbox or filter was technically incorrect. You should better use special air filter sealing grease instead, e.g.: K&N: 99-0703-1 or 99-0704 Twin Air: Bio Air Filter Sealant Background: Lambda O2 sensors on motorcycles (jump probes) are generally more prone to malfunction than those on cars (oil, shocks, vibrations, completely different driving style). Among other things, they have a shorter service life due to the crankcase ventilation, which leads directly into the intake tract via the air filter box, causing an oil film to settle on the sensors and potentially cause them to coke. For this reason, silicone grease should not be used in the intake tract, as silicone leaves residues on the zirconium element of the O2 sensor during combustion (“Poisoning of Zirconia Exhaust Oxygen Sensors by Silica” – SAE paper 860478). Therefore, if silicone comes into contact with the O2 sensor, it can be harmed. This slideshow video also shows the installation of an OptiMate SAE cable for permanent charge or power access.
