Die Weltumsegelung pausiert: Wir bereiten meine Elvström 38 für die die Werft vor
This video marks the beginning of an unexpected but necessary chapter in my circumnavigation journey. My Elvström 38 needs to go to the shipyard because the keel will be removed and re-glued. Therefore, the planned circumnavigation has to be temporarily suspended. Before the boat goes to the shipyard, however, there's still a lot of work to be done: I'm removing both sails and preparing everything for lowering the mast. I'll show you the individual steps and give you an insight into the preparations necessary before a sailing yacht goes into the shipyard. Even though the interruption wasn't planned, this kind of thing is part of the life of a long-distance sailor. Safety and solid preparation are top priorities – especially when the ultimate goal is a circumnavigation. Before the boat goes to the shipyard, however, there's still quite a bit of work to be done: I'm removing both sails and preparing everything for lowering the mast. Topics in this video: • Preparing for the shipyard stay • Removing the sails • Preparing to lower the mast • Keel repair on the Elvström 38 • Challenges before the circumnavigation • Refit and maintenance of a bluewater yacht Join me on my journey to circumnavigate the globe and experience the highs and lows of a great sailing adventure.
