Research Seminar 2: The middle Bronze Age revolution?
The years between 1500–1150 BC have often been seen as a key period of change in later prehistory. Settlements and field systems become more visible in the archaeological record, in what has been characterised as a time of ‘settling down’, or even a ‘second agricultural revolution’. It may be a good time to reassess these ideas, as sites are being discovered in regions where few or none were known before, and regional diversity is becoming more apparent. This is a recording of a live webinar held on Thursday 17th June 2021. In this, Oxford Archaeology presents exciting new results from sites that shed light on this important period, including Clay Farm near Cambridge; the Norwich Northern Distributor Road in Norfolk; Wallingford in the Thames Valley; Bridgwater Gateway in Somerset; and Eastbourne in Sussex. Thank you to John Barrett for chairing the session and to all our panellists for such a fascinating discussion: Anwen Cooper, Robert Johnston, and Jacky Nowakowski.
