Berlinale Joko Anwar Zazie Beetz Michelle Yeoh Michael Peña Tom Tykwer Wim Wenders Ghost in the Cell
Due to my growing family and the arrival of our second child, the video was delayed, but it has finally been released. This beautiful change in my life also meant that my time at the Berlinale was more limited than ever, making every moment there feel even more precious. This year’s festival felt steady in terms of talent presence across the two weeks, which made choosing the right time to attend surprisingly difficult. In the end, I followed my heart and focused on what mattered most to me - the world premiere of Joko Anwar’s Ghost in the Cell. Everything else became secondary. Meeting him had been a dream for years, and I knew this might be my only chance. It truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime moment. And somehow, it was even more special than I had imagined. He was not only charismatic, but also incredibly warm, humble, thoughtful, and genuinely present with his fans. Despite the crowd and the pressure of the event, he gave his time so generously. I had four covers for him to sign. Far more than I should have asked, but he remained patient and kind throughout. I couldn’t help myself, knowing how unlikely it is that I’ll ever get another opportunity like this. Thank you @ComeandSeePictures_ Full Q&A from Ghost In The Cell can be found here: • Ghost in the Cell Q&A - Berlinale 2026 Wor... Endy Arfian was just as lovely, kind, approachable, and full of positive energy. And then there was Abimana Aryasatya… a moment I’ll never forget, even if it didn’t go quite as planned. Somehow, I didn’t recognize him at first. I still don’t know how that happened, maybe the emotions, the adrenaline, the overwhelming feeling of being there. The moments before and after Ghost in the Cell were more bittersweet. This year, many talents seemed distant, less open to interacting. Bill Pullman, Anders Danielsen Lie, Pamela Anderson, Callum Turner, and others mostly waved briefly before disappearing into their cars. With such limited time, I had to make difficult choices and completely skipped the main red carpets, perhaps my only chance, but also a necessary one. Instead, I chose smaller premieres, hoping for something more personal. And in some ways, that decision paid off. At Mouse, the atmosphere was much warmer. While Chloe Coleman kept her interactions brief, the rest of the cast truly made an effort. Sophie Okonedo, David Hyde Pierce, and Iman Vellani were incredibly kind, taking their time and making sure fans felt seen. Those small moments of connection meant more than they probably realize. Good Luck, Don’t Die was more of an emotional rollercoaster. Gore Verbinski seemed to be in his own world, enjoying the moment in a different way. Michael Peña focused on photos, and I almost missed him completely because of security, but managed to capture a memory, even if it wasn’t perfect. Zazie Beetz stood out as someone who truly cared, making a real effort to connect. Sam Rockwell passed by almost everyone, and Haley Lu Richardson, though signing, somehow slipped past me. Moments like these remind you how unpredictable these experiences can be. One of the most meaningful highlights, though, was meeting Tom Tykwer and Wim Wenders - two directors whose work has shaped my love for cinema. Their films have stayed with me for years, influencing how I see stories and the world itself. Even something as simple as an autograph became deeply personal. Tom’s signature felt like a piece of art, while Wim Wenders turned my Pina booklet into something truly unique. There were also a few more interactions that deserve to be remembered. Seeing Michelle Yeoh, who was receiving the Golden Bear this year, was truly special. Unfortunately, the crowd became overwhelming, and with people pushing against the barriers, she passed me by. Still, it didn’t feel like a loss—we had met two years earlier, and that memory already means a lot to me. Meeting Jessica Gunning and Johnny Flynn was genuinely exciting, one of those moments that brings a simple, pure joy. Reinaldo Marcus Green, Hikari, and Doona Bae were all incredibly warm and friendly, making those brief encounters feel meaningful and human. The biggest surprise, though, was Nicolas Winding Refn. I wasn’t expecting him at all, which made the moment even more surreal. By chance, I had brought a cover for Elle Fanning from The Neon Demon, and thanks to that, I had something for him to sign. It felt like everything aligned perfectly—until my marker didn’t cooperate. The autograph didn’t come out as clean as I had hoped, but somehow that imperfection makes the memory even more real. I wish I could have stayed longer, experienced more, and held onto those moments just a little bit more. But in the end, life gently reminds you what matters most.
