N&W 611 climbing Christiansburg Mountain w/ 21 cars and several slips! 7-5-15
N&W 611 tackles the famed Christiansburg Grade, westbound w/ 21 cars, on 7-5-15. This is the toughest part of the grade, just west of Montgomery Tunnel, and had the rails been any more wet, she may not have made it! Notice the loss of speed as she slips on both sides of a flange lubricator! A quick shower also added moisture to the rails making it a bit more slippery.
