Lack of youth involvement a ‘travesty’ for Voice campaigns

Indigenous activist Myles Jerrard says the lack of youth involvement in both the ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ campaigns is a “travesty” as they will be the ones to carry it on their shoulders. Mr Jerrard revealed why he is voting ‘No’ to the Voice and addressed the confusion surrounding the debate. “I think that young people have a more positive message in terms of ‘let's start bringing this country together’,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “We recognise the past, it’s time for truth-telling, colonisation happened, a lot of bad things happened, and a lot of those things do impact certain individuals, Aboriginal people in our communities, but it’s not everyone.” Mr Jerrard also accused the ‘Yes’ campaign of classing people into one “homogenous group”. Australians will head to the ballot box on October 14 to vote in the Voice referendum, which the polls suggest could be heading for defeat.
