Advanced Driving (1964)

Abingdon, Berkshire. C/U of a man with a large beard and spectacles. Snazzy camera movement pans around him to reveal that he is sitting in a classroom. It is an advanced driving course. Various shots of the teacher and the pupils. Teacher uses magnetised cars to illustrate things he is talking about. He sticks them onto the blackboard. Various shots of a man with an instructor sitting next to him in a car. Narrator describes some of the techniques of good driving. Good shots of man driving from inside the car - C/U of gears being changed etc. Narrator explains that we have to anticipate poor driving techniques of others. A cyclist squeezes up next to a lorry on the inside, lorry driver leans out and tells off the cyclist. Two women stand on a corner gossiping then one turns to cross the road almost getting run over. Our driver has a go at controlling his car on a wet road. Car skids and he does well - instructor nods his approval. Good for illustrating road safety issues. Cuts exist - see separate record.
