CONSTANTINE (2005) ENDING EXPLAINED

John Constantine is an ordinary man, he has no superpowers nor a particularly strong moral. He's Christian, but he's a Christian by force of circumstance, he has known death and Hell as a suicide when he was young, so he is aware of the existence of the afterlife, but this does not imply that he has faith, as pointed out by the androgynous half-angel Gabriel. His destiny is to end up in Hell and that is why he tries to regain a place in Paradise using magic and cunning, to chase away the evil-doer’s demons from Earth.
