Lecture 07 The French Baroque & Rococo

Lecture 07 The French Baroque & Rococo ARTH2720 Art History from the Renaissance Travis Lee Clark Utah Valley University So in this episode we talk about how the French Baroque has a more restrained and Classical feel thanks to the special circumstances of the French Court. We also talk about the Versailles Effect and how Louis XIV was horrible to his courtiers and spent so much money he more or less made France the center of the art world. Then I describe why the sugar rush of the Rococo left us with a hangover so bad we had no choice but to go clean and go Neoclassical. (I also made an accidental unpaid endorsement of Wheaties. But hey, General Mills, give me a calll! )
