Project Visit | Sihle Maseko at the Zanyokwe Irrigation Scheme
Go beyond the conversation and step into the field with Sihle Maseko as he takes us on a tour of his farming operation at the Zanyokwe Irrigation Scheme, one of the 11 irrigation schemes supported by the Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture. During our visit, Sihle gives us a firsthand look at his day-to-day farming activities, production processes, and the practical work involved in running a successful agricultural enterprise. We also explore the Zanyokwe Irrigation Scheme and its contribution to agricultural production and rural development in the Eastern Cape. Spanning approximately 635 hectares, with 412 hectares under irrigation across six villages, the scheme is sustained by water from the Sandile Dam, fertile soils, and established irrigation infrastructure. It supports the production of vegetables, maize, potatoes, and other crops, creating opportunities for farmers to grow sustainable agricultural businesses.
