Here's how to get the longest life from your cut Hydrangea Blooms! Hydrangeas are a beautiful long lasting flower, and if we take a little extra care to cut and condition them properly we can get a vase life of up to two weeks! Here is a quick guide to my tips Cut from a well hydrated plant in the early morning before the sun has reached the plant Only cut older mature blooms that are fully open and fully colored. The older the bloom the longer the vase life Strip all the leaves, cut the stem at an angle, and then cut vertically up the stem Immediately place into tepid water with cut flower food Let condition (rest) in a cool place for 12-24 hours If a bloom wilts in the vase try the boiling water method or water bath method to bring the bloom back to life Before arranging, dip the stem in Alum powder to increase the vase life Keep cut hydrangeas in a cool room away from direct sun Change the water every few days and give the stems a fresh cut at the this With these tips I've seen Hydrangeas go almost a full month! The most important part is really to pick them when they are mature. An older bloom will hold WAY longer than a fresh bloom.
