Totnes is known for its New Age community and is known as a place where you can live a bohemian lifestyle. Totnes was the first town in the UK to introduce its own local currency in 2007 It was known as the Totnes Pound. It's aim was to support local businesses. Today Totnes outdoor market is held on Fridays and Saturdays. Totnes railway station is situated on the Exeter to Plymouth line and has trains direct to London Paddington. Totnes castle is one of the best preserved in Devon, It's managed by English Heritage and is a short walk from the town centre. Totnes is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
