Generally made of resin, they restore aesthetics and chewing function. The fabrication of a complete denture typically requires between 3 and 5 appointments in the dental office, interspersed with technical phases in the dental laboratory. 1. Diagnosis and Initial Impressions A clinical examination of the oral cavity is performed to evaluate the health of the gums and bone. A preliminary impression (generally with alginate) is taken to obtain study models. 2. Final Impression and Custom Trays The laboratory fabricates custom trays for the patient. With these, the dentist takes a high-precision impression (using silicone or flowable polymer) to capture exact details of the tissues and the peripheral seal. 3. Maxillomandibular Relationship Record Wax rims are used to determine: Vertical dimension: The correct distance between the maxilla and mandible. Lip support: Orientation of the rim according to the smile line and the patient's profile. Tooth color and shape: Selection of the teeth that best harmonize with the face. 4. Wax-Up Trial (Teeth in Wax) A trial is performed with the teeth mounted in wax on the models in a dental articulator. The patient can see how their smile will look, and the dentist verifies the occlusion (bite) and speech before the final acrylic fabrication. 5. Delivery and Adjustments The finished prosthesis is placed. It is common for the dentist to make minor adjustments to eliminate pressure points.
