Speaker: Will Costello Text: John 14:12-14 Title: “The Promise of Doing Greater Works through Answered Prayer” 1. The Promise of Greater Works Explained in Context (v 12) 2. The Promise of Greater Works Granted through Prayer (vv 13-14) Application Questions: At first glance, what “greater” works do you think Jesus had in mind in John 14:12? Historically speaking, in what two ways did the apostles do “greater” works than Jesus did during his life on earth (using Scripture to support your answer: see in both the scope of miraculous signs: Acts 5:16; 19:11-12, Heb 2:4 and in the scope of souls saved: Acts 2:41, 4:4, 5:15, 6:7; compare with Jesus’ converts in Acts 1:15)? What does it mean to pray in Jesus’ name? Is this a formula to get what you want using Jesus' name or is it a filter for you to glorify the Father by praying for what pleases Jesus? (14:13-14) What are the kinds of things Jesus wants, the things He would be pleased for you to ask the Father [or Him see Ps 25:11, 31:3, 79:9] in His name (or on His behalf)? Explain. See John 15:1-8. How is your prayer life? Do you pray with Jesus’ authority? Do you pray for God’s glory? Do you pray with certainty? What prayers has Jesus been pleased to answer in your life the last three months? Do you pray perseveringly?
