Sewage Scandal: 20 Million Brits Could Be Compensated For Pollution Cover-Up

In a shocking revelation, six English water companies are facing legal action over allegations of underreporting pollution discharges and overcharging customers. The accusations came to light after a freedom of information request from the Liberal Democrats exposed the cover-up. Environmental and water consultant Professor Carolyn Roberts is leading a class action against the companies, with Seven Trent being the first firm to face legal action. The other five companies are expected to follow suit in the coming months. The severity of the situation is evident in the fact that the ten most polluted rivers in the country have been affected, with sewage being pumped into them on numerous occasions. The founder and chair of River Action, Charles Watson, sheds light on the issue, stating that the sewage system in the UK is grossly under-invested due to the industry's privatization three decades ago. As a result, the infrastructure is unable to cope with heavy rainfall, causing sewage and drainage systems to combine, leading to the discharge of sewage into rivers and even beaches. Watson highlights the inadequacy of the water industry in comparison to other countries like France and Germany, emphasizing the urgent need for investment in the system.
