Diesel Powered Streetcar at the Trolley Museum of New York
The Trolley Museum of New York operates on the remaining Kingston segment of the former Ulster and Delaware Railroad. Now cut off from the rest of the rail system, the trackage includes a portion of street running, originally laid to serve freight industries, a yard, now forming the museum site, and a man-made levee bringing the track out into the Hudson, originally used for connecting with passenger ferries, and now offering spectacular views. The main operating rail vehicle at the museum is a former Johnstown St Louis Car Co. streetcar, which was converted to diesel power while operating at the Stone Mountain Railroad in Georgia. Since the Trolley Museum of NY doesn't currently have wires strung, the diesel motor is still used.
