Alaska to California, on a Handbike | EP5 · One Big Family | VID Expedition

Marvelous news: we have done over 3300 kilometers, which means we are officially past the halfway point of the expedition. Not so marvelous news: Michiel's nose got burnt. See how. The past week we have spent in Jasper and Banff, and it has been absolutely great. The mountains, crystal blue lakes, grand displays of raw nature, and most of all - great encounters with other cyclists. We cycled together with the Terra Tributa family (  / terratributa  , a family of four cyclists: Bertrand, Vanessa, Leo and Lucas. It was impressive to see the kids scale the hills with their little bikes and the two parents managing this all, on wheels. We carried on with Chris from England, who is such a cool guy to ride with, a bicycle wizard and we shall miss him. Now we push on towards the West in the direction of Vancouver! Support us on Patreon / Crowd Fund Campaign: https://linktr.ee/handbikepacking ~ Michiel broke his back in 2013 and got paralyzed in his legs. He started walking again in 2018 after a period of intense rehab. Chiara just finished her studies in Italy as a nurse and together they are now looking to cross new borders. We have documented 8556 km or 5322 miles of world record breaking cycling from Alaska to La Paz, Mexico on VID Expedition: Travel Series. Join Michiel Desmet and Chiara Maffina on their 9 month long trip and support their goal of attempting a Guinness World Record of the longest handbike drive ever. Raising awareness for the strength that lies within people with a disability. And in each of us. Traveling, following the sun on its course south, and being happy together in our wonderful life on five wheels.
