JP 8080 vs Korg MS20 mini - feat. the 5 best Kai Tracid trance arpeggios (Digital/Analog)

After recording my latest videos demonstrating the JP 8080, which featured mainly that turn of the millennium supersaw and uplifting sound that defined the era and made the 8080 so famous, I was thinkning that for my next video I wanted to showcase some harder trance music, though not necessarily "hard trance". The first thing that came to mind then was the german acid/trance/techno producer Kai Tracid, who also happens to be one of my all time favorite artists. Kai Tracid stands out among other producers with a truly unique and personal style, with melodic arpeggios that are more on the rough and gritty side while at the same time being deeply emotional. Most of his music also has a melancholic and contemplative aspect to it, which I think is something that he has consciously built his brand around (look at his song titles and lyrics). Now, Kai Tracid has a certain lead sound for a lot of his hooks that I consider to be somewhat of his signature lead. And as far as I understand he has explained himself that he made that sound using his Korg MS20, which is a legendary fully analog synthesizer that has been used by many artists so create some classic thick sounds. Unlike the Korg MS20, the JP 8080 is a virtual analog synthesizer, meaning it is digital but aims to replicate the sound of traditional analog synthesizers. And of course the age old question is how do these virtual analog synthesizers compare to true analog synthesizers in term of the sound. Do they sound the same (or similar)? So I transcribed the arpeggios from my five favorite Kai Tracid songs and sent them to my JP 8080 to hear how it stacks up against the originals. Now, I do not have an MS20 but I do have the mini version, so for comparison I decided to play them back on the MS20 mini and the 8080. The question is; can you hear a difference? If so, which sounds best? --- 00:00 - #5 "4 Just 1 Day" 01:10 - #4 "Bad Shape" 02:12 - #3 "Suicide" 03:40 - #2 "Trance & Acid" 05:08 - #1 "Express your hidden passion"
