Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Management Agency, Jumhur Hidayat, presented the results of the Ministry of Environment (KLH) meeting during London Climate Action Week (LCAW). The event, which brought together global leaders, businesspeople, and organizations and aimed to accelerate climate action, discussed three main issues: climate change, new and renewable energy (NRE), and biodiversity. In LCAW, Indonesia pursued a mission related to "climate justice," which relates to mitigation, adaptation, and efforts to promote public welfare in the face of climate change. Regarding the energy transition, Indonesia also encouraged efforts to reduce carbon emissions but also needed to provide solutions for workers in the fossil fuel sector who would be left behind. Regarding biodiversity, Indonesia is a country with the highest biodiversity in the world, and therefore is encouraged to become a leader in its management. As the new Minister of the Environment, Jumhur Hidayat, in his first 100 days in office, was tasked by President Prabowo with waste management and the development of a waste-to-energy (WTE) project through the Waste-to-Electricity Processing (PSEL) program, which is being initially developed in Bekasi City, Greater Bogor, and Greater Denpasar. Furthermore, as Head of the Environmental Management Agency, Jumhur Hidayat is also focusing on environmental protection efforts, which have been neglected in the past 10 years, resulting in sanctions for 447 city/district governments and more than 3,000 companies for environmental management violations.
