Painting Aviation Nose Art: A History | Military Aviation Museum

Nose Art is perhaps one of the most interesting aviation-related phenomena from the World War II era. Join us as celebrated artist and designer Chad Hill of Django Studios walks us through the process of creating a piece of modern Nose Art while exploring the historical significance underpinning each brush stroke. Hill started his artistic career at an early age thanks to his parents. Hill’s mother taught him how to draw, and his father and Uncles instilled in him a love of hot rods, tractors, and WWII airplanes. For the past 18 years, he has been a freelance graphic designer in Chicago developing consumer packaging for companies like Hasbro, Unilever, Sears, Valspar, Old World Industries, and Raybestos. Over the years Hill has also worked on adding period correct nose art to restored World War II aircraft. He has created Nose Art for World War II aircraft in the Commemorative Air Force and the Grissom Air Museum collection to name just a few.
