Is the Conadria Fig Worth Growing? Taste Test & Tree Review
Today on MyFigStix, we're taking a closer look at one of the classic American fig varieties—the Conadria Fig. We'll pick the best ripened fruit from the tree, weigh it, cut it open, and find out how it tastes. Along the way, we'll also explore the history of this unique variety and why it has remained a favorite among many fig growers for decades. The Conadria was developed by the legendary fig breeder Dr. Ira J. Condit at the University of California, Riverside. It was introduced in *1955* as one of the first intentionally bred hybrid fig varieties. Condit created it by crossing the White Adriatic with a caprifig, aiming to produce a vigorous, productive tree with high-quality fruit suitable for both fresh eating and drying. The name "Conadria" even combines **Con**dit and **Adria**tic. In this video we'll cover: 🌳 The history of the Conadria Fig 🌳 Tree growth and productivity 🌳 Fruit size and appearance ⚖️ Fruit weight 🍈 A full taste test and flavor review My first impression? This was my first true honey-style fig. It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, but it delivered a wonderfully smooth, delicate honey flavor that was light, refreshing, and incredibly enjoyable. I think this tree still has some maturing to do, but the potential is definitely there. Conadria is known for producing large green-to-yellow fruit with pink to strawberry-colored flesh. Growers often describe the flavor as mild, sweet, and honey-forward, making it an excellent fresh-eating fig that's also well suited for drying. Have you grown Conadria? I'd love to hear how it performs in your climate and how you would describe its flavor.
