The Jos Crisis
Recent killings in Jos, Plateau State, have once again reminded the world of the fragile peace in Nigeria’s Middle Belt. But this crisis did not begin today. From the deadly 2001 Jos riots to repeated waves of violence over the past two decades, generations have grown up witnessing conflict in a city that was once known for its diversity and coexistence. In this episode of Naija Now, the conversation becomes deeply personal. Modele Akintokun was born and raised in Jos. Tobi Adeyemo experienced similar violence growing up in Northern Nigeria. Mukaila Salaudeen spent his early life in Jos before moving to Halifax. Hanatu Hamman grew up in the church community as the daughter of a church organist. Together, they reflect on the past, the present crisis, and the hope that Jos can once again become a place of peace. Watch the full episode now.
