►Oil dipsticks were the way to check your oil level for over 100 years. Now, though, manufacturers have ditched the stick for electronic measurement. It may be less messy, but it's also less reliable because the level sensors are known to eventually fail. A dead sensor will leave you without a critical piece of safety information, so it's worth replacing as soon as possible. Replacing the oil level sensor on a 9A1 engine in a Porsche 991 is fairly straightforward. It's secured to the bottom of the oil pan with nothing obstructing it, making it as accessible as anything on the engine. However, removing the sensor will open the oil pan and cause any oil inside to drain out, so it's best to do this while performing an oil change.
