Claudia López is the sister of Ruth Eleonora López, El Salvador's most well-known political prisoner. Ruth, a lawyer, human rights defender, and head of the Anti-Corruption Unit at Cristosal, was arrested on May 18, 2025, at her home without a warrant, initially accused of embezzlement and later of illicit enrichment. She has remained imprisoned without trial ever since, in a case that the Attorney General's Office has kept secret. Claudia was finally able to visit her in the prison where she is being held (the Izalco Penitentiary Farm) on June 30. In this interview, Claudia speaks in detail about Ruth's health, her visit to her in prison, and why the family maintains her innocence.
