Check out the bright yellow chart where you can see how the E pedal goes over the 4 bars of E7 AND the 4 bars of A minor. :-) This is a 'Pedal' effect and can be applied to any tune to add tension and drama. 'Anniversary Song' is also known as 'Danube' is an old tune which is played all the time in the gypsy jazz community. So here's the two ideas you can use on 'Anniversary Song' that will give your performance an added boost: 1. This is an arrangement idea where in the 1st A section we keep the E7 pedal as we play the melody. We can also build up the mysterious vibe using an E pedal as an intro before the melody comes in. Think of it like an Arabic flamenco kind of sound. The E7 pedal stays until you go to the D minor when it releases and gives a cool effect. 2. In the bridge you start with a 2-5-1 into C major. Dm7-G7-Cmaj. There's a cool idea I heard the great guitarist Adrien Moignard play which is to play G-C-E for the Dm7 then G#-C#-F for the G7. This is easy as you just bar the strings on the 5th fret then slide it up 1 fret for the G7. This gives a really cool altered modern sound. You can also play a G7sus chord over this 2-5 progression which sounds super cool. I also show you a cool but really easy idea you can use in your solo over the first three chords of the bridge. It's a 2-5-1 in C major so Dm7-G7-Cmaj. Just play the G-C-E notes 5th fret on the D-G-B strings and move it up a fret for the G7 then back down. Have fun!
