#billygraham Graham: The Evangelist Who Preached to the World Billy Graham was one of the most influential Christian evangelists in modern history. For more than six decades, he faithfully preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ to millions of people across the globe, becoming a trusted spiritual leader whose message centered on salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Early Life Billy Graham was born as *William Franklin Graham Jr.* on **November 7, 1918**, in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. He grew up on a dairy farm in a Christian family. Although he attended church from a young age, Billy personally committed his life to Jesus Christ at the age of 16 after hearing evangelist Mordecai Ham preach. Call to Ministry After answering God's call, Billy Graham attended Florida Bible Institute and later Wheaton College in Illinois, where he graduated in 1943 with a degree in anthropology. While at Wheaton College, he met Ruth Bell, the daughter of medical missionaries to China. They married in 1943 and remained faithfully married for over 63 years until Ruth's passing in 2007. Together they had five children. Rise to Worldwide Ministry Billy Graham's ministry gained international attention during the Los Angeles Crusade in 1949. Newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst reportedly instructed his newspapers to "Puff Graham," resulting in nationwide publicity that launched Billy Graham into global prominence. Over the following decades, he held large evangelistic crusades in more than 185 countries and territories, preaching in stadiums, parks, and arenas to over 215 million people in person. Through television, radio, books, and the internet, his message reached hundreds of millions more. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association In 1950, Billy Graham founded the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), which continues to spread the Gospel through evangelistic events, media outreach, disaster relief, and Christian training. His radio program, *Hour of Decision*, and television broadcasts brought biblical teaching into homes around the world. Ministry Philosophy Billy Graham's preaching was simple, clear, and centered on the Bible. His famous invitation, "The Bible says...", emphasized the authority of Scripture. Rather than promoting himself, he consistently pointed people to Jesus Christ, calling listeners to repentance, faith, and a personal relationship with God. He preached on themes including: God's love for humanity Salvation through Jesus Christ Repentance and forgiveness The hope of eternal life Living a life of faith and obedience Advisor to Presidents Billy Graham served as a spiritual advisor to numerous United States presidents, from Harry Truman through Barack Obama. While he met with world leaders, he consistently stated that his highest calling was to preach the Gospel rather than engage in politics. Books and Publications Billy Graham authored more than 30 books, many of which became bestsellers. Some of his well-known titles include: Peace with God The Journey Just As I Am (Autobiography) Hope for Each Day Nearing Home His writings have encouraged millions of believers worldwide. Awards and Recognition Throughout his lifetime, Billy Graham received numerous national and international honors for his humanitarian work and Christian ministry. Despite widespread recognition, he remained known for his humility and dedication to Christ. Final Years Billy Graham gradually reduced his public ministry due to age and health. His final large evangelistic event took place in 2005 in New York City. On **February 21, 2018**, Billy Graham passed away at the age of 99 at his home in Montreat, North Carolina. Leaders from around the world paid tribute to his extraordinary life and ministry. Lasting Legacy Billy Graham's greatest legacy is not the size of his crowds but the message he faithfully proclaimed: that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone. His ministry inspired countless pastors, missionaries, evangelists, and believers to share the Gospel with compassion and conviction. Today, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association continues his mission through evangelistic outreach, online ministry, humanitarian work, and the annual Samaritan's Purse partnership led by his son, Franklin Graham. Billy Graham's life reminds Christians everywhere that one faithful servant, fully surrendered to God, can impact generations and help bring millions to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. *"My home is in Heaven.
