Roy Ayers Ubiquity ~ Running Away 1977 Jazz Funk Purrfection Version

Time to take it down a notch....Roy Ayers has been a favorite artist of mine since the 70's, his rendering of disco funk "Running Away" is classic and I was overjoyed to hear Erykah Badu cover his "Searching" years later. Ayers was born September 10, 1940 in Los Angeles California to a musical family, mom played the piano and daddy blew the trombone. He became a jazz sideman in 1962 then joined Herbie Mann in 1966 and broke up the band in 1970. He then started Roy Ayers Ubiquity, which means "a state of being everywhere at the same time." He was pegged to write and produce the music for the 1973 blaxploitation film "Coffy" starring Pam Grier and came up with a stellar and well regarded soundtrack. His next hit was 1976's "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" which has become a staple of urban jazz and jazz funk radio stations. This is his biggest disco hit ever, peaking at #14 in the late summer of 1977. I used to play the hell out of this one while running on the treadmill at Bally's back in the 90's, the song is a total groove monster. Another one of those records I love to play for you and me too. Jazz funk at its finest!
